Scratch Coding Course for Kids
Age: 10+
The program is divided into two progressive levels.
At I Shine Innovation School, our Scratch Coding Course for Kids is designed to transform young learners from passive consumers of digital games into confident creators, programmers, and designers. Instead of simply playing games, students learn how games are planned, programmed, tested, improved, and brought to life using Scratch, one of the most engaging visual programming platforms for beginners.
This practical Game Development Course for Kids introduces learners to essential coding concepts through structured, project-based activities. Students create complete digital games while developing computational thinking, creativity, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Every project gives learners an opportunity to apply programming concepts in a meaningful and enjoyable way.
The course is divided into two levels, allowing students to progress from foundational Scratch skills to more advanced game mechanics, variables, lists, cloning systems, and multi-start programming logic.
Program Goals
Scratch Coding Course for Kids for Developing Computational Thinking
Students learn how to break large problems into smaller, manageable steps. They plan game sequences, identify patterns, organise instructions, and develop logical solutions using Scratch programming blocks.
Computational thinking helps learners understand how programmers approach complex challenges. This foundation prepares them for future study in coding, robotics, artificial intelligence, and software development.
Strengthen Problem-Solving and Debugging Skills
Programming does not always work correctly on the first attempt. During this Scratch Programming for Beginners course, learners develop debugging skills by identifying errors, analysing why a game is not working as expected, and applying the correct solution.
This process teaches patience, persistence, attention to detail, and confidence in learning through experimentation. Students begin to understand that mistakes are a natural and valuable part of the programming process.
Prepare Students for Advanced Programming Languages
Scratch uses visual programming blocks, allowing students to understand programming logic without being distracted by complex syntax. Learners explore essential concepts such as conditions, variables, coordinates, messages, lists, operators, and event-based programming.
These concepts create a strong foundation for a smooth transition to text-based programming languages such as Python in the future. The course therefore provides an important starting point for students interested in advanced programming for kids in Egypt.
Encourage Creativity and Digital Design
Coding is not only a technical skill. It is also a creative process. Students design characters, choose backgrounds, create game scenarios, develop rules, and build unique gameplay mechanics.
They learn how to combine graphics, storytelling, movement, sound, and programming to create interactive digital experiences. This develops creativity while helping students understand the relationship between design and technology.
Level 1: Scratch Game Development Foundations
Level 1 introduces students to the fundamental tools and concepts required to create their first interactive games.
Games Developed
Students create:
- Maze
- Brick Breaker
- Cat Basketball
- Pac-Man
Through these projects, learners understand how characters move, interact, respond to events, detect collisions, track scores, and communicate with other game elements.
Programming Concepts
Students learn:
- Sprites
- Backdrops
- Conditionals
- Broadcasting and receiving messages
- Clones
- Variables
- X-Y positioning
By completing Level 1, students can independently create simple games with clear objectives, characters, scoring systems, and interactive behaviours.
Level 2: Advanced Scratch Game Programming
Level 2 builds on the foundations developed in the first level and introduces more sophisticated programming structures and game mechanics.
Games Developed
Students create:
- Snake
- Ninja Fruit
- Spacecraft
- Calculator
These projects require learners to apply more complex logic, manage multiple objects, control clones, store data, and coordinate different game events.
Advanced Programming Concepts
Students learn:
- Pen extension
- Lists
- Multiple variables
- Multi-start logic
- Clone control
- Operator programming
Students use these concepts to build games that are more responsive, organised, and technically advanced.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this Scratch Coding Course for Kids, learners will be able to plan, design, program, test, and improve their own digital games. They will develop stronger computational thinking, logical reasoning, creativity, debugging, and project-management skills.
Students will also gain confidence in presenting their projects, explaining their programming decisions, and demonstrating how their games work. Most importantly, they will move from simply using technology to understanding how technology is created.
This course provides a powerful foundation for future learning in Python, robotics, artificial intelligence, website development, and advanced game design.
